About the site

My name's Tobias, I started and now run Contra Database. The site first came into existence back in 2003 as my interest in Contra slowly started to creep back to me after having played "Shattered Soldier" on PS2. Being born in Europe myself, the name "Contra" was relatively unknown where I lived.

See, over here the games had always been known as "Probotector". It wasn't until "Contra: Legacy of War" was released on Playstation that the series name changed. I won't go into detail about the whole "Probotector" deal, but suffice to say, I was surprised to find out that to the rest of the world, "Contra" was about the two badass soldiers Bill and Lance, not some odd robots named... RC011 and RD008.

Anyways, thanks to magazines and the internet, I was able to catch up on the history of the series and decided it might be fun to start my very own fansite, which is exactly what I did. The site is still going strong today, despite going through a 3 year long hiatus which it just recently came back from. But that's in the past now, the future is looking bright and I'm looking forward to see what the future brings to both the Contra series and this site!
